Google Classroom New Look

Google Classroom has a brand new look for the new year. (I just got this update through Classroom today) Now you can:

• Drag and drop topics and classwork items in the Classwork page

• Easily access the class code from the Stream

• Sign up for the new Gradebook beta

Google Classroom New Gradebook (Beta)

Classroom has a new Grade book in beta where you can:

  • View and edit all grades across classwork and students in your class
  • Customize and view average grades for your students
  • Add grade categories with default points and weights

If you are interested in testing out this new feature, click on the link below to sign up. Note: you will need your G Suite administrator to fill out the program agreement.

Use the Snipping Tool to Capture Screenshots

Sometimes the easiest way to make a copy of something is to take a snapshot of your screen – this is what Snipping Tool does. Use it to save and share teaching resources and ideas. Students can also use the Snipping tool to submit assignments electronically to you.

  • Capture all or part of your PC screen, add notes, save the snip, or email it from the Snipping Tool window.

Create Adventure Stories in Google Slides

• These stories can be interesting, fun and challenging for students!

• This resource contains step-by-step instructions, instruction bubbles and planning pages to help them create the stories in Google Slides

• Students will need to plan out their stories because of the somewhat complex nature of creating the options in these types of stories

1. Planning Slides

2. Creating a Choice Slide

3. Creating Destination Slides

4. Shapes for Adventure Pages

5. Linking Slides

6. Insert Text Boxes

7. Linking Callouts

• These stories can also be created in Groups. Each member of the group could be responsible to write one adventure. All members could work on the story at the same time using Google Slides.

• Use the planning slides in this resource to help students prepare. They can be shown on a projector, shared through Google Classroom or photocopied.

• After they are finished preparing, use the instructions in this resource to show students how they will create their stories in Google Slides
