How to build your subwoofer with ease?
- Get a plan: Once you have a plan, you can begin the construction of your subwoofer.Â
While many people do not have the skills of doing woodwork, they need the help of a professional. For those who can do the woodwork, they need cutting tools.
- Do the cutting: Cut the side panels and glue the port to stay in place. You can make use of PVC pipe as your port. Glue it in place before you assemble and paint the enclosure.
- Glue up: You need to glue the sides in place and ensure that the edges are in a square position. The port must be glued to the bottom of your enclosure. You clamp the enclosure in place to ensure that the subwoofer is tight when the glue used dries up.
The steps to build your subwoofer
Sanding and Smoothing
After the glue has dried up, take an orbital sander and do sanding on the enclosure. When you have sand the enclosure, get it set for painting.
The Back Panel
You should screw the back panel directly into the enclosure. You can drill countersinks too on the back panel to help the screws relax.Â
Preparing for Paint
You can formulate a mixture of 50/50 wood glue or Titebond III and water for this set. You should brush the mixture on the surface and leave it overnight.Â
The idea is to make the surface perfect for spray painting.
Applying the Paint
You can use light coats of grey primer first on the surface. You sand it for better paint adhesion and wipe the surface with solvent to ensure there is no oil before you paint.
Making the Control Panel
You should ensure that your measurements are correct and cut out your template for gluing on the plywood piece. The next thing is to mark your holes and drill with a small bit to open the holes.
Mounting the Amplifier
The control panel should be mounted on the amplifier. Add an indicator LED and insert it from behind. Push the threaded inserts in the amplifier support panel. You should ensure that the ledge of the enclosure is glued perfectly.
Mounting the Woofer
Take out the woofer and drill the holes through the panel. Use adhesive foam tape and position the woofer sealed against the panel edge.
